A Magical Day in Sunnyside

Amy partnered with talented illustrator Kate Durkin, a fellow Sunnyside mom, to write a children’s book about the New York City neighborhood referred to as the “small town in the big city.”

A Magical Day in Sunnyside is a celebration of the bustling small businesses that serve as the cornerstones of this vibrant community, where everybody feels like family. From Jonathan at Belo to Violet at Bliss Vintage, to Tangni, the local florist who creates the most gorgeous bouquets at Ora Casa de las Flores, this town is full of talented artists and businesspeople who work so hard to make this place as magical as it is. 

The book starts with a little girl named Cory Bea. As she takes her cousin Ava, who is visiting for the day, through the neighborhood she’s so proud to call home, adventure awaits as they go from store to store. The book is a tale of two cousins having a glorious day, but it’s also a celebration of this very special place and the incredible shop owners, parks and people who live and work here.
