 The Three C’s of Pitching Amy

COVERAGE: I usually try to cover mission driven stories about founders who are advancing women, people of color, the LGBTQ+ community or otherwise marginalized groups. I rarely cover a straightforward product launch or profile a founder unless there is a clear mission driven element in the story.

CALENDARS: If you need to secure coverage within a few days or a week, I'm not the right person to reach out to. I usually schedule interviews and plan out my pieces about three months in advance. There are always exceptions but it is incredibly rare that I can work on such a tight turnaround.

COMMUNICATION: I'd love to respond to every single pitch, but the volume has gotten wild and my inbox is not a safe space. I try to read every pitch, but usually not past the first paragraph, so keep it short and sweet. It pains me to ignore emails (I’m a recovering people pleaser,) but unfortunately it's not realistic for me to respond to everything that comes my way. There are so many stories I want to cover but can't. That said, I respect the art of the follow up! Feel free to nudge me if I don't respond to your first email. If you still haven’t heard back after a second follow up, it likely means I can't cover your story right now.
